“This new body of work represents both my struggles as an artist, and the struggles of the community I’ve lived in for the past 5 years. After my day to day hustle, I’d oftentimes come home and see both my mother and neighbors selling their personal items on the sidewalks of our street. These weren’t leisurely weekend garage sales…my mother was trying to put food on the table. Our neighbors were trying to do the same.

After seeing this, I would walk from home to my shared art studio and began to notice the street signage and solicitations that everyone would post to advertise their sales. Intrigued by the colors, language, and handwritten typography, I began to collect these signs at a rapid pace.

Slowly I started to see my own life reflected in these signs. I began to make the connection between my own personal struggles as an artist, with the challenges faced by day laborers, immigrants, and the unemployed that surrounded me. We were all trying to find a way to sustain ourselves in this city.
This latest body of work is directly inspired by these experiences. Each piece contained in this show is an affirmation and a reminder – to keep striving and moving forward regardless of the obstacles placed in front of us.”
